Good news incoming: the nominees for the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards are queer as hell. While a majority of the categories are dominated by Taylor Swift and Post Malone with their number-one collaboration ‘Fortnight’, there’s a lot of rainbow representation here – particularly amongst queer female artists.
Following her meteoric rise to fame, Chappell Roan has earned two nominations for Best New Artist and MTV Push Performance of the Year for her rising smash ‘Red Wine Supernova’.
It’s worth noting that ‘Good Luck, Babe!’, her breakout pop anthem currently vying for the top spot on various worldwide charts, is missing here because of the lack of visuals (Beyoncé’s impact?) After entering her unapologetically queer era (queera?), Billie Eilish has landed two: ‘LUNCH’ for Video of the Year and her Barbie chart-topper ‘What Was I Made For?’ for Video for Good.
The two-time Oscar-winner recently teamed up with Charli XCX on the remix for ‘Guess’, which is expected to top the charts in the UK this Friday.
