HIPS updates fundraising appeal for purchase of building
HIPS, the LGBTQ supportive organization that provides “harm reduction and compassionate services to sex workers, drug users, and the unhoused LGBTQ+ community,” announced on Aug.
26 that that it has raised close to $250,000 of the $350,000 it needs for a down payment to enable it to purchase the building it has operated in for the past eight years at 906 H St., N.E.
The announcement says an earlier deadline for securing the remaining $100,000 it needs has been extended to Sept. 30 to finalize the purchase of the building and ensure its continued operations. “For 30 years, HIPS has been at the forefront of providing essential services to those most marginalized in our community,” said HIPS Program Director Elizabeth Macintosh in the Aug.
