Muriel Elizabeth Bowser (born August 2, 1972) is an American politician serving as the eighth Mayor of the District of Columbia since 2015. A member of the Democratic Party, she previously represented Ward 4 as a member of the Council of the District of Columbia from 2007 to 2015. She is the second female Mayor of the District of Columbia after Sharon Pratt, and the first woman to be reelected to that position.
As Ted Leonsis said at the press conference announcing the Caps and Wizards would stay at the Capital One Arena in D.C., “When I told Muriel Bowser I was leaving D.C.
she said to me “No you’re not!” turns out she was right.” I must admit I was sad not to see Leonsis beg a little more for the $515 million investment, and other changes the District will agree to at Capital One Arena.
But I realize the job of the mayor is to make it happen for the District, not to penalize greedy rich guys like Leonsis. Clearly, he is greedy as was demonstrated by his secret deal with Virginia Gov.
Glenn Youngkin to try and move his company, Monumental Sports, to Virginia. What we saw go down was the comeuppance of two greedy rich guys, when the Virginia Legislature, and the people of Alexandria, said a loud ‘NO’ to them.
