Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ collaboration has been hailed as an “instant classic”. After weeks of rumours, the Grammy-winning pop icons finally debuted their matching red-and-blue ensembles and soaring vocals for their first-ever duet, ‘Die With A Smile’, a cinematic pop-rock ballad featuring instantly iconic, lovey-dovey lyrics such as, “If the world was ending, I’d wanna be next to you”.
More lovey-dovey incoming: “If the party was over and our time on Earth was through, I’d wanna hold you just for a while, and die with a smile.” Gaga and Bruno debuted the music video at the same time, which follows the duo in the aforementioned Western wear as they respectively flex their talents on the guitar and piano to an audience for a live television broadcast.
In a statement, Gaga said the standalone single came to fruition as a result of her and Bruno’s “mutual respect for each other”. “I was finishing up my own album in Malibu and one night after a long day he asked me to come to his studio to hear something he was working on,” she reminisced. “It was around midnight when I got there and I was blown away when I heard what he had started making. “We stayed up all night and finished writing and recording the song.
Bruno’s talent is beyond explanation. His musicianship and vision is next level. There’s no one like him.” Bruno added: “Getting to work with Gaga has been an honor.
