The synth-pop trio recently announced that “the greatest band in the world MUNA will be dropping a new song very soon” on social media.
Last week, MUNA took to Instagram with news of new music and photographs with a post that read: “The greatest band in the world MUNA will be dropping a new song very soon. “They will be taking no further questions at this time. [S]leep with one eye open…or both.” Since then, the band have unveiled a snippet of a new single, called One That Got Away, to TikTok featuring the caption: “If you never put it on the line, how am I gonna sign for it?” The new track includes the collective’s familiar synth-pop sound with lead vocals by Katie Gavin and backing harmonies from guitarist Naomi McPherson.
The TikTok video also included the lyrics: “If you never put it on the line, how am I gonna sign for it? / You never let me know what you want, maybe that’s why I’m The One That Got Away“.
Speaking to GAY TIMES last year, the band shared the significance of writing music that resonates with the LGBTQ+ community. “It’s such a purpose-giving experience when a song resonates with a certain community — it’s so affirming,” Naomi shared. “We have a heart-soul connection, and that is so meaningful.
