(?: @TodayFM) pic.twitter.com/qyARZ323l3The event comes less than two weeks after (and was directly inspired by) a similar Timothée Chalamet lookalike contest in New York City, which drew enough of a crowd that local authorities had to get involved, apparently leading to one knockoff Timmy getting ushered away in a cop car.Chalamet himself even made an impromptu, blink-and-you-missed-it cameo at the Oct.

27 gathering, and clearly the Dublin competition’s organizers had high hopes Mescal might do the same.He is, after all, slated to appear at the Irish premiere of Gladiator II tonight in Dublin at the Light House Cinema, down the street.

Though he sadly didn’t show up for the contest, he did make a surprise appearance at Trinity College just across town, where students gathered to gawk as the actor visited his alma mater.Paul Mescal visiting Trinity College ahead of the Dublin premiere of ‘GLADIATOR ll’ pic.twitter.com/odc3WcU4WORegardless, the Mescal doppelgängers were out in full force today, and many of them dressed the part—which is to say, they mostly wore casual sportswear and short-inseam shorts to show off a tasteful bit of thigh, much like the star does when he’s “off-duty” and spotted strolling by the paparazzi. All entrants were invited to pose for the crowd then prompted to deliver a line from one of Mescal’s beloved roles, the winner then determined by audible support from the audience.A wise man once said: thicc thighs save lives. As the competition went on, the multiple Mescals were given different monikers based on their appearance or recited quote, so fans turned out to root for the likes of “Tall Paul,” “Casual Mescal,” and even “Denny’s Paul.”(In Ireland, Denny’s isn’t a diner chain like it is here in the States, but rather a popular brand of sausages.

Now an important part of Mescal’s lore, his first screen appearance was in a TV ad for the meats where he’s notably seen chowing down on the links.
