The Legacy of Love Monument, a symbol of unity and pride in Dallas that stands on the corner of Oak Lawn Avenue and Cedar Springs Road, sustained significant damage a few months ago when it was struck by a vehicle.

The Oak Lawn Committee maintains the monument. Since the accident, they have been working with its insurance company to process the claim.

After months of work, the group announced the insurance claim has been approved, and restoration efforts will begin soon. “The monument holds a special place in our community, symbolizing resilience, love, and the importance of unity,” said Adam Murphy, vice president of the Oak Lawn Committee. “We’re grateful for everyone’s patience as we worked through this process, and we’re excited to see it returned to its original beauty.” Since it was built, the monument has become a gathering place for the LGBTQ community to mark momentous events.

Deaths of community leaders have prompted gatherings. Supreme Court decisions that have granted LGBTQ rights have been celebrated there.
