David Tennant has been criticized after the Doctor Who actor told British equalities minister Kemi Badenoch to “shut up” because he disagrees with her views on trans rights.
Tennant was recognized for being a “celebrity ally” at the recent British LGBT Awards and, in an acceptance speech that has surfaced online, he spoke out against Badenoch.
The actor said he was on the side of “human decency” and believes “everyone has the right to be who they want to be,” before arguing against Badenoch’s existence. “Until we wake up and Kemi Badenoch doesn’t exist anymore – I don’t wish ill of her, I just wish her to shut up – whilst we do live in this world, I am honored to receive this [award],” he said.
