As Georgia gets ready to kick off early voting next week on October 15, the DNC is launching a mobile billboard campaign for Atlanta Pride this weekend to encourage LGBTQ Georgians to visit IWillVote.com, and VoyAVotar.com to make a plan to get out and vote. “LGBTQ+ Georgians know what’s at stake if Donald Trump and JD Vance get the chance to enact their extreme anti-equality Project 2025 agenda – and now it’s time to make a plan to vote,” DNC Rapid Response Director Alex Floyd said in a statement. “In less than four weeks, Georgians are going to show Trump and Vance that hate has no place in our country, and will turn out for Vice President Harris and Governor Walz who have always stood up for our’ basic rights.” The mobile billboard will circle the Georgia Aquarium today from 5pm to 10pm during the Pride opening party and then Atlanta Pride events in Midtown on both tonight from 10pm to 1am and Saturday from 5pm to 1am.

This effort comes soon after the announcement of the DNC’s historic six-figure ad campaign, seen in 16 publications across eight states, targeting LGBTQ voters in battleground states.

Along with Georgia Voice, other publications running the ad include the Washington Blade, Metro Weekly, Out South Florida, Qnotes, the Las Vegas Spectrum, GoGuide Voter’s Guide, Dallas Voice, Philadelphia Gay News, Ambush Magazine, ION Arizona, and SWERV.  “This historic investment from the Democrats aims to meet voters where they are, recognizing that the LGBTQ+ community is a large and diverse voting bloc that we are not taking for granted,” Jaime Harrison, DNC chair, said in a statement. “Our fundamental freedoms to be who we are and who we love are on the ballot this November, and we’re empowering diverse corners of the LGBTQ+ community to make their voices heard.”

I’ve been thinking about this post for awhile, and I had hoped/assumed it would be a little more ‘celebratory.’ Despite losing him, I was assuming that we were entering a time of greater hope. But instead, we’re entering, or continue, to live in an era very much like the times when we lost Pedro. And I guess, maybe now more than ever, we should remember him.
