Hearing meaningful words at an important time in one’s life can lead to personal growth and change. While at university, I heard the right words about homosexuality from the right messenger, Rev.

Troy Perry, founder of the Metropolitan Community Church (MCC). Rev. Perry celebrates his 84th birthday on July 27. Rev. Perry regularly visited Atlanta. At a young age, I learned that an openly gay man in Atlanta got attention. Perry’s autobiography “The Lord is my Shepherd, and He knows I’m Gay,” is his testimony about keeping his faith during his struggle to reconcile it with his sexuality.

It was an important book that captured the attention of many other allies, including newspaper editors and religious columnists.

Anybody who loves movies knows the thrill of returning to an old favorite for a repeat viewing; it allows us to appreciate things we missed before. Alternatively, re-watching a bad movie (or at least, one you disliked) can help you find a new perspective on it – but that comes with the risk of discovering that it’s still bad, and then you’ve wasted a couple of hours that you’ll never get back.
