Adam Lambert recalls how record execs reacted to his 2009 AMA performance: “I felt a collective gasp”
A post shared by ADAM LAMBERT (@adamlambert)I think there was always, for years, a little dash of, like, PTSD from that experience on the AMAs when I did that sexualized performance and had this whole controversy from it. It’s not that the controversy from the public really bothered me that much; it was more that, on the industry side, I felt a collective gasp.I felt like there were people who didn’t really feel like a gay man was going to be able to succeed in commercial pop, and that moment gave them a reason to take a step back or it confirmed their doubts or whatever. So I spent a few years feeling like I had to regain trust from certain people and play by the rules a little bit more just to stay in the game.
