Sen. JD Vance (via his campaign website) Donald Trump announced this afternoon (July 15) that first-term Ohio Sen. JD Vance, 39, would be his running mate.
Vance opposes abortion rights and LGBTQ equality while supporting policies he believes would increase the birth rate in the U.S.
The Respect for Marriage Act passed before Vance was elected to the Senate, but he has said he would have voted against it. He opposes gender-affirming care and has introduced legislation to criminalize it.
Vance has voiced support for Texas SB 8 (the abortion legislation that passed last session) saying, “It’s not whether a woman should be forced to bring a child to term, it’s whether a child should be allowed to live, even though the circumstances of that child’s birth are somehow inconvenient or a problem to the society.” Vance criticizes those without children and said on Fox News, “Why have we let the Democrat Party become controlled by people who don’t have children?” Both President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, the leaders of the Democratic Party, have children.
