Piers Morgan has sparked backlash for asking ‘Where’s my straight flag?’ during a heated debate on Uncensored. The broadcaster, 58, is no stranger to controversy, and has made plenty of comments in the past which have sparked outrage from audiences.
Most recently however, viewers have been left less than impressed after a debate on Pride flags. Speaking to comedian and radio presenter James Barr, the former Good Morning Britain host began: ‘The moment it looks like it’s over the top, like it’s everywhere you go, pride pride pride pride… do we need to be that exuberant about it?’He went on to cry ‘No’ when James asked if Piers was ‘blaming gay people for that’. ‘I don’t care what sexuality anybody is, I don’t think most people do anymore,’ Piers insisted. ‘Why are you so triggered by a flag?’ James retaliated.
Piers continued: ‘I’m not triggered by a rainbow flag. I’m triggered by the fact that everywhere I go for a month everything has to be a rainbow flag. ’James hit back: ‘Well I’m triggered that everywhere I go for the entire year, everything has to be straight. ’‘Where’s my straight flag?!
When have you ever seen a straight flag?’ Piers shouted back, repeating: ‘There’s never been a straight flag. ’His comments have sparked outrage online, with author and campaigner Natasha Devon writing: ‘For me, the sight of a pride flag is an indicator that queer people are welcome wherever it is flying. ‘Straight people don’t need a flag because they are not and never have been excluded based on their sexuality.
