Britney Spears has announced the release of her tell-all memoir, The Woman in Me. Following an intense bidding war “among multiple publishing houses”, according to PEOPLE, the memoir was acquired by Gallery Books – an imprint of Simon & Schuster.
Jennifer Bergstrom, Gallery Books Senior Vice President and Publisher, told PEOPLE: “Britney’s compelling testimony in open court shook the world, changed laws, and showed her inspiring strength and bravery. “I have no doubt her memoir will have a similar impact — and will be the publishing event of the year.
We couldn’t be more proud to help her share her story at last.” Described as “a brave and astonishingly moving story about freedom, fame, motherhood, survival, faith, and hope,” the memoir will presumably share unknown details about Britney’s widely-publicised conservatorship, which was terminated in November 2021 after 13 years.
A press release from Gallery Books states that The Woman In Me will reveal “for the first time her incredible journey (and) strength at the core of one of the greatest performers in pop music history.” Additionally, the memoir “illuminates the enduring power of music and love — and the importance of a woman telling her own story, on her own terms.” In August 2022, Britney released a video in which she opened up about her conservatorship, the #FreeBritney movement and how her family “threw” her away “like a f***ing machine”. “I’m sharing this because I want people to know I’m only human.
