Jon and Justin Culpepper, founders of Pride in Frisco, this week announced that Jon has accepted a new job as chief information officer with the national offices of the American Civil Liberties Union, and that the couple will be moving to New York City by the end of this month. “It is an opportunity of a lifetime that unites my skills, talents and passions to remain in the movement and directly support those on the frontlines to fight for and defend our collective freedoms and civil rights at the most consequential level,” Jon Culpepper wrote in an email announcing the move.
For Pride Frisco, Jon said, this move means “scaled back operations as we settle into our new life and as I adjust to an expanded scope of responsibilities, after which we will evaluate the most impact ways Pride Frisco can support the LGBTQIA+ communities of Frisco and North Texas.” He said that the organization “will be guided by prudence and patience to evaluate the needs of our most vulnerable communities.” “It has been the honor of our lives to serve our LGBTQIA+ communities as co-founders of Pride Frisco,” Jon wrote. “We have met, collaborated with and befriended so many extraordinary community members and leaders.
Thank you for your friendship and partnership. I look forward to continuing seeing you in the fight and working alongside you to uplift marginalized communities.” Jon and Justin Culpepper will be greeting friends at a farewell reception on Sunday, Jan.
26, from 6-8 p.m. at JR.’s Bar & Grill, 3923 Cedar Springs Road. This will be a casual, come-and-go, no stressful event with no expectations, Jon stressed.“This bar and our neighborhood strip mean so much to so many people over the decades,” Jon wrote. “I came to Dallas when I was 18, came out and found community here, picked up my first Dallas Voice on The Strip, and Justin and I celebrated our marriage with our close friends at JR.’s in 2015.
