I appreciate the Blade gave Lisa D. Rice the opportunity to respond to my recent column, “Say no to D.C. ranked choice voting, open primaries,” in which I quote her from the Washington Post column that mentions her as the proponent and originator of a potential ballot initiative on these issues.
In responding to my column, she concludes people who are against ranked choice voting (RCV), and open primaries, find change difficult.
As an openly gay man, who grew up when being ‘out’ was difficult, I understand change, and fought for change my whole life. Change is important in how we educate our children and change is crucial in our nation’s healthcare system.
I have fought for change in how we treat women and the LGBTQ community; change in the structural racism we now live with. I am a huge proponent of change, but for me change must be positive, and not all change is.
