Girls Aloud and Sophie Ellis-Bextor are putting on a show for the LGTBQ+ community! The “Something New” girl group and the “Murder on the Dance Floor” disco superstar were among the performers at Brighton & Hove Pride 2024, which kicked off Saturday (August 3) in Brighton, England.
The Pride festival kicked off with the annual Pride parade, departing Hove Lawns and visiting iconic Brighton landmarks, including the West Pier and Royal Pavilion. In Preston Park at the Fabuloso stage, the official Pride community fundraiser, Beth McCarthy performed, as well as RuPaul’s Drag Race UK vs The World Season 2 winner Tia Kofi, House Gospel Choir and Sophie, who delivered classics like “Take Me Home,” “Music Gets The Best of Me” and “Murder on The Dancefloor.” Billy Porter also put on a theatrical, showcasing selections from his latest album, ’90s R&B and Broadway. Girls Aloud headlined on Saturday night (August 4) with new outfits and surprises separate from their The Girls Aloud Show tour, including colorful pink and purple wigs, a Madonna “Material Girl” cover, a performance of “Watch Me Go,” which the band haven’t performed since 2005, and a surprise guest appearance from Olly Alexander, who joined the girls in a performance of fan-favorite “The Loving Kind” and Years & Years hit “King.” The Gaydio Dance Tent featured sets from Fat Tony, DJ Paulette, Horse Meat Disco, and Prok & Fitch, while the BEEFMINCE tent featured Paul Heron and Massimo Paramour, while the Queertown stage had guests including Lorraine Bowan and Drag Race‘s Ginny Lemon.
