L DEVINE has performed her new single ‘Slippin Away’ at the iconic Abbey Road Studios in London, in partnership with GAY TIMES.
The new single is representative of the star’s evolution as an artist, which combines her distinctive diaristic and self-deprecating lyrical style, accompanied by an alt-pop sound and the subtlety of a paired-back live instrumentation. “‘Slippin Away’ is my way of taking the piss out of my patterns in relationships.
I protect myself a lot in my songwriting by being self-aware and making fun of myself before anyone else can,” L DEVINE said of the single. “It’s a tongue-in-cheek love song about smothering someone with love so much that you push them away.” ‘Slippin Away’ will be included on the hotly-anticipated release of her debut album Digital Heartifacts alongside ‘Laundry Day’, ‘Push It Down’ and ‘Miscommunikaty’.
The latter was shared on Radio 1 by Clara Amfo as a ‘Hottest Record’ premiere and ‘Tune of the Week’ by Greg James. “The album is a bit of a different direction sonically in that we recorded way more live instruments on it than I ever have before and I think this song especially has a proper band feel to it,” she said of Digital Heartifacts and being a part of Abbey Road’s Equalise programme. “Being able to record a live session with Devon at Abbey Road and show people what’s to come on the live side of things was so exciting.” Due for release 2 February, Digital Heartifacts is now available to pre-order/pre-save.
