Melanie Lynskey has opened up about her “heartbreaking” friendship breakup with Kate Winslet. Before earning acclaim for her roles in Showtime’s Yellowjackets and HBO’s The Last of Us, the Ever After star earned her big break in Peter Jackson’s drama Heavenly Creatures.
The Oscar-nominated film, which was based on the 1954 Parker-Hulme murder case, follows the story of Pauline (Lynskey) and Juliet (Winslet), two teenage girls who strike an intense friendship – which leads to the murder of the latter’s mother.
Like their two characters, Winslet and Lynskey had a close bond while filming the project. However, as their individual stars began to rise within Hollywood, the two beloved talents lost touch.
In a recent interview with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Lynskey gave further insight into how growing apart from the Titanic star affected her. “When I lost touch with Kate, it was more heartbreaking than some breakups that I’ve had,” she revealed. “It was so painful.
