Queer as Folk creator Russell T Davies has shut down anti-LGBTQ+ haters ahead of Yasmin Finney’s upcoming Doctor Who debut. Back in 2022, the BBC announced that the Heartstopper star had joined the long-running series as a new Rose. “This show has a place in so many people’s hearts, so to be seen as a trans actress by the legend himself, Russell [T Davies], has not only made my year, it’s made my life,” she said in a statement following her casting.
Davies echoed similar sentiments in an additional statement at the time. “Life on Doctor Who gets brighter and wilder – how can there be another Rose?
You’ll find out in 2023, but it’s an absolute joy to welcome Yasmin to the Doctor Who set,” he teased. On 25 November, Finney will finally make her Doctor Who debut in the show’s highly anticipated 60th-anniversary specials.
In addition to the popular Drag Race UK guest judge, the three-episode event will feature the return of David Tennant as the 14th Doctor, Neil Patrick Harris as the Toymaker and Catherine Tate reprising her role as Donna Noble – who is also Rose’s mother.
