A veteran has spoken of the historic abuse he suffered in the Royal Navy after the UK Government announced it would boost compensation for those impacted by a ban on gay people serving.
Glen Coleman, 62, was detained in a cell for 20 days, publicly humiliated and eventually dismissed from the Armed Forces because of his sexuality.
He served in the Royal Navy between 1979 and 1983. He trained as a naval airman and later as a marine engineer mechanic before serving as a bodyguard and fireman on the Clyde-built frigate HMS Naiad.
Glen, who lives in Ayrshire, said the sacking and abuse affected his life for decades, as he struggled to hold down a job and suffered from drug and alcohol addiction.
