The SPCA of Texas this week announced the launch of its LGBTQ+ Advisory Council, a strategic initiative to “strengthen ties with North Texas’ LGBTQ community and allies and foster inclusivity in its mission to provide care and services to pets and their people,” according to an SPCA press release.
The press release describes the council as a “milestone” that builds upon the organization’s history of championing diversity and community involvement.” Chris Luna, JD, president and CEO of the SPCA of Texas, said in a written statement, “The SPCA of Texas has long valued the diversity that makes North Texas such a dynamic place to live, work, and play. “The LGBTQ+ community has been a longtime supporter of the SPCA of Texas through adoptions and donations,” Luna said. “With the launch of our LGBTQ+ Advisory Council, we’re deepening our commitment to inclusivity by seeking guidance from community leaders to better serve all residents and their pets.” The SPCA of Texas officials pointed to the organization’s recognition in Dallas Voice’s annual Readers Voice Awards as “Best Place to Adopt a Pet” for more than 10 years and its participation in the annual Dallas Pride Parade and Festival, saying, “These milestones underscore the organization’s ongoing efforts to welcome and celebrate all members of the community.” In 2025, the SPCA of Texas is planning several new initiatives aimed at strengthening connections with the LGBTQ community and allies, according to the press release.
Those initiative include: • Mobile adoption events in welcoming spaces such as Sue Ellen’s, The Round-Up Saloon, and other LGBTQ-friendly venues across the North Texas region. • A permanent LGBTQ-oriented retail presence in the SPCA of Texas’ Dallas Animal Care Center to support the organization’s mission offering pet supplies and branded merchandise with proceeds benefiting the pets and people it serves. • Enhanced community outreach through the LGBTQ+ Advisory Council, which will provide insights
