Peter Hujar’s Day, is about the celebrated gay photographer of the same name. Whishaw plays the role of Hujar, who died in 1987 of AIDS-related illness.

The movie is adapted from a phone conversation that Hujar had with a good friend, writer Linda Rosenkrantz (played by Hall) in 1974.
The conversations were recorded and the movie is based on the real transcript. Rosenkrantz has asked Hujar to recall everything he did the previous day.
