RuPaul’s Drag Race alum Sapphira Cristál is sparkling this winter with a line-up of live performances that will have audiences as wide-eyed as if they were watching Tosca fling herself off a balcony in Puccini’s dramatic opera.
Fortunately, the stage at 54 Below‘s legendary cabaret space is only a few feet high. Cristál, winner of Miss Congeniality on Season 15, is in high gear, preparing for her New York City concerts (February 5-6) before dashing off for a three-city tour of her new show, Sapphira Cristál Presents: One Slue Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, at City Winery venues in Atlanta, St.
Louis, and Nashville. While her vocal gymnastics might seem effortless, Cristál’s years of training have laid the groundwork for the next chapter, which she hopes will include opera, musical theater, and more original music.
It was at the prestigious Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester where Cristál first discovered the convergence of the classical art form with boundary-pushing drag.
