Breaking: Charli XCX’s legacy has officially been cemented in the world of British soap operas. In a recent episode of the BAFTA Award-winning soap Eastenders, it was revealed that Stacey Slater’s (Lacey Turner) daughter, Lily (Lillia Turner), has named her first child Charli. “Aww, after Uncle Charlie?” Stacey asks the father Ricky Mitchell (Frankie Day), to which he clarifies: “No, after Charli XCX.” The clip, which has been hailed as “iconic” by fans and viewers, immediately went viral on social media and caught the attention of the pop icon and automobile advocate, who tweeted her gratitude to the “gays in the writer’s room” for the homage.
Check out the hilarious video and Charli’s response below. Charli recently snagged her sixth top 10 single in the UK – and first as a lead artist since 2015 – with ‘Speed Drive’, her acclaimed dance-pop anthem from Barbie, this year’s most commercially successful film.
Last year, she also achieved her first chart-topping album in the country with her lauded fifth studio album Crash. Influenced by ’80s and ’90s pop music, the album features bangers such as ‘Good Ones’, ‘New Shapes’ (featuring Christine and the Queens and Caroline Polacheck) and ‘Used to Know Me’.
She recently appeared on ‘2 Die 4’ from Addison Rae’s debut EP AR and composed the 2023 queer teen film Bottoms. The post Charli XCX thanks gay EastEnders writers for baby name homage appeared first on GAY TIMES.
