St. Thomas’ Parish, an Episcopal Church located in D.C.’s Dupont Circle neighborhood, announced last week that it has launched the Bishop Gene Robinson Endowment for Community Outreach that will provide financial support for Robinson’s charitable and social justice work, including support for LGBTQ refugees in the D.C.
area. The announcement says the endowment honors Robinson on his 50th year as a priest and on his 20th year as a bishop. Robinson made history in 2003 when he was elected bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of New Hampshire, becoming the first known priest in an openly gay relationship to become a bishop of the Episcopal Church, the announcement says.
Upon his retirement as head of the New Hampshire diocese in 2013, Robinson moved to D.C. to become a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress as well as Bishop in Residence at St.
