Alex is the chronically charming, astoundingly driven, hopelessly womanising protagonist of the book; however, in the movie, he shares protagonist duties with Henry.
He starts off by hating the Prince with a passion, and you can probably guess where that ends up leading him. Similarly, Nicholas is fantastic in this role, and manages to capture Henry's vulnerability, sadness, and dorky charm in an extremely captivating way. In the film, she serves as a combination of two book characters – Nora and June, Alex's sister who does not feature.
