Queer, with Variety. The acclaimed film comes from Italian director Luca Guadagnino (Call Me By Your Name, Challengers). It’s based on a semi-autobiographical book by cult author William S.
Burroughs.Craig plays (William Tell), a man who embarks on a passionate, physical relationship with a younger man, Eugene Allerton (Starkey) in 1950s Mexico City. The movie received a nine-minute standing ovation when it premiered at the recent Venice Film Festival.
Variety features the lead actors on its cover and calls Queer, “the most audacious love story of the year.” It says Queer goes beyond Brokeback Mountain and Call Me By Your Name in what it depicts in terms of love scenes between the men.Subscribe to our newsletter for your front-row seat to all things entertainment with a sprinkle of everything else queer.Craig, Starkey and Guadagnino gave a lengthy interview to the magazine about the movie.
Craig and Starkey also did a more lighthearted video interview in which they were quizzed to see how well they knew each other.Well, we say lighthearted, but Craig appears to quickly tire of the format of the interview and the expectation to flit between serious and trivial answers (skip to the 2-minute mark below to see what we mean). The actors are asked such questions as “What year did you both first meet?” and “How many James Bond movies did Daniel Craig make?” (Craig seems particularly unwilling to talk about anything Bond-related).
