Rising alternative-pop star Zand has announced an EP alongside the release of their new single ‘Deliverance’. The nu-metal inspired track is written from the perspective of someone caught in a “maniacal spiral into depravity, hellbent on retribution”. “A satirical chronicle exploring the dynamics and consequences of exploitation, paranoia, stalking and reactive abuse,” they explain. “Sonically, ‘Deliverance’ is inspired by the theatrically laced emo and nu-metal bands I listened to in my teens, like My Chemical Romance, System of a Down, The Used, etc,” Zand reveals. “The dark cabaret/polka elements were undeniably influenced by bands like The Dresden Dolls, and even film scores like Danny Elfman’s work in The Nightmare Before Christmas had a hand in its birth.” READ MORE: Yeule releases eerie new single Ghosts Sewerstar will also compile some of the artist’s previously released singles, including the ugly-pop-murder-fantasy ‘I Spit On Your Grave’ and gothic EDM banger ‘Leeches’.
The EP is a conceptual piece, examining the dynamic interaction between human nature and animalistic desires. Exploring the notion of ‘sin’ through a number of alter egos, the narrative is set in an underground sewer realm inhabited by “gremlin-esque reptilian humanoids, who run society amok,” according to a press release.
Each track tells a new character’s story, with each anti-heroic narrator representing a separate ‘star’ of the realm. Zand has also announced their first UK headline tour for this October.
