Man charged for homophobic attack on couple heading home from Black Pride

A man will appear in court today charged with offences following a homophobic attack in Brixton, the Lambeth Police report. Content warning: This story includes topics that could make some readers uncomfortable and/or upset.

The Metropolitan Police reported that: “Two men were standing at a bus stop when they were assaulted by another man. The two men went to hospital for treatment to their injuries before being discharged.” The two men were on their way home from attending Black Pride, when the assault happened.

The incident took place on Brixton Road at approximately 22:30 on 19 August. Jabbard Mabounda, 31, will appear in custody at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 29 September.

Mabounda has been charged with one count of racially/religiously aggravated ABH and two counts of racially/religiously aggravated assault by beating.
