A local marijuana crop sprouted nicely during the spring flooding In a never-ending effort to piss off the rest of the state, enough signatures were collected to place a charter initiative to decriminalize pot will appear on the ballot in Dallas in November.

Ground Game Texas turned in about 50,000 signatures supporting the measure. The charter amendment would decriminalize possession of small amounts of marijuana up to four ounces.

Police chief Eddie Garcia is against the initiative because, he said, possession, sale and usage of larger amounts lead to violent crimes.

If passed, police would not be able to issue citations for Class A or B marijuana possession offenses. Other cities — well, mostly Austin — have already tried to legalize possession of small amounts of marijuana but were blocked by Attorney General Ken Paxton who sued successfully to keep the measure off the ballot.
