A wild, sexy ride on the ‘Down Low’
With a title like “Down Low,” a movie could be almost anything, from a psychological thriller to a comedic crime caper to a documentary about the blues.
When it stars Zachary Quinto and Lukas Gage, however, and describes them in its tagline as “a deeply repressed man” and “a twink” respectively, millions of queer audiences will immediately know what the title means.
That phrase is universal code for online cruisers who are “looking” for fun but only if their wife/husband/straight bro/church pastor/etc.
never finds out about it. Based on the most likely assumptions about how a “DL” encounter between a repressed man and a twink might take place, it’s easily possible to guess the set-up – and maybe the entire scenario of the movie – before the first scene begins.
