She’s been cropping up on Coronation Street for the past three years, and now, actress Vicky Myers reveals her character DS Lisa Swain will be staying for good as she investigates the disappearance and suspected murder of Lauren Bolton, played by Cait Fitton.
Becoming a regular on the long-running soap means her character will get backstory, which includes a daughter. She's also single and gay. “Relationship-wise, we know she has a daughter,” says Vicky. “Also, I’m not entirely sure if everybody knows this, but she’s gay. “I think Lisa has perhaps seen somebody that’s caught her eye, but at the moment she’s far too busy with focusing on this investigation and her career and being a single mum and juggling her home life. “If anybody out there has teenage daughters they can quite well understand what I’m saying with that.
But we’ve only just scratched the surface with Swain so far.” Initially DS Swain wasn't slated to be a big character but the role has grown. “I was contracted to do eight episodes, so this is really quite something,” says Vicky. “My job at the time was to make sure I got to the truth of this woman as authentically as I possibly could. “If you run away with yourself, then you lose sight of what’s right in front of you.
So I was very focused on creating this powerhouse woman. And from there it progressed in such a wonderful way. But this was never expected at all.” With Lauren having disappeared suddenly, and without a trace, DS Swain begins to investigate.
