Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso has confirmed that footballer Colin Hughes (Billy Harris) is gay, marking the show’s first openly LGBTQ+ character.

In the third season’s third episode, titled ‘4-5-1’, the character is shown waking up in bed before picking his clothes up off the floor.

He then goes downstairs, where we are introduced to his male lover who has very kindly made him a cup of coffee. “I don’t do caffeine,” Colin tells his love interest, who we now know is called Michael. “Right, your body is a temple,” the latter responds. “More like a church in an airport,” Colin jokes back.
