Variety, NBC now wants a series. In the show, Quinto plays Dr. Oliver Wolf. He is described as “a revolutionary, larger-than-life neurologist as he and his team of interns explore the last great frontier — the human mind — while also grappling with their own relationships and mental health.”The life and work of Dr Oliver Sacks (1933-2015) serves as an inspiration for the show.

The late, acclaimed neurologist wrote best-selling books about some of his cases, including The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat and An Anthropologist on Mars. This is not the first time the entertainment industry has drawn upon Sacks.

The late Robin Williams played a character based on Sacks in the 1990 movie Awakenings. The sexuality of the fictional Dr Wolf is unknown.

In real life, Oliver Sacks was gay. However, he did not talk about his sexuality for decades. He lived a celibate life for around 35 years from his 40s onwards.
